NEW WORKSHOPS
Broadway 101 for Grades 6 - 8

May 11, 18, June 1, 8, (No Class May 25th) from 10AM - 12PM

Learn everything you need to know about how musicals come to life. In this 4-session intensive, you will learn about casting, the audition and rehearsal process, costumes, character development, props, stage management and even producing! Learn scenes and songs from Broadway's most popular plays and musicals and explore what makes a Broadway show successful! The end of the session will culminate in a performance to which participants will be able to invite their friends and family.

$80 TRUMBULL RESIDENTS  (NON RESIDENTS $100)

Non-refundable. Class size is limited to 20.

There must be a minimum of 10 students to hold this class.

SPRING AUDITION WORKSHOP

Are you singing the same songs and doing the same monologues as everyone else? Do you want to know how to make directors laugh with you and not at you? Are you not getting the roles you want?

8th grade – Age 21 

No audition experience required.

Difficulty level: No audition experience required to attend the workshop. However, more experienced actors will be able to develop their book with songs appropriate for their type and is casting director-approved!

What will be taught?

In this 3-hour workshop we will learn about the audition process from your first "hello" to your last "thank you". We will work on choosing the right song, how to do a cold reading, how to make the perfect first impression, how to choose the right headshot, how to write your resume, what to wear, and what NOT to do. Ever. If you're regularly auditioning and just want to hone your skills, or you're just starting out and need a crash course, you will benefit from this class!

Everyone in the class will participate and some will have an opportunity to go through actual auditions and work their material one-on-one with Christy, in front of the class. This is perfect for people looking for more experience or for people wanting to try out new material. You may also choose to audit this course.

About the instructor: Christy is an audition and vocal coach in New York City and Connecticut. Her students have booked Broadway shows, National Tours, agent contracts, regional productions, and local theatre. She has appeared Off-Broadway in "Evil Dead: The Musical", "Elvis and Juliet" with Fred Willard, and Clyde Fitch's "The Truth." Regional credits include "Taming of the Shrew" (Denver Center), "Slasher" (Humana Festival), "The Scene" (Hartford Stage and George St. Playhouse), "Funked Up Fairy Tales" (Barrington Stage), "Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical", (Eureka Theatre) "Bat Boy", and "The Last 5 Years" (Ray of Light Theatre), and San Francisco's infamous "Beach Blanket Babylon." TV credits include "Law & Order: SVU" and several national commercials. She is a member of Actors' Equity Association, the Screen Actors Guild, and the sketch comedy troupe, Honorable Mention.

What to bring: A notepad & pen/pencil. If you are signed up for one-on-one work, please bring sheet music for a song you have sung or would like to sing for an audition. Please wear an outfit that you might wear or have worn for a general audition. Water Bottle.

Option 1: ONE ON ONE - $25 - limited to 10 students

Option 2: AUDIT the workshop - $10 limited to 25 students

We must have a minimum of 5 ONE ON ONE students and 10 AUDIT students to offer this course.

In this fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza, Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big  imagination--Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.

 

Rehearsals begin July 1, 2013
